Nothing could be truer than the points you made (I really don't want to go back through them, too painful). Mike McCann is right on with his point -- they looked lost in those games. The game against the Colts was just down right confusing as a fan. Peyton Manning looked like he felt sorry for his brother when they exchanged their hand shake after the game.

Giants are like the Mets in that they are turning into an embarrassment, only difference is the Giants have potential to be a contender and possibly more (like you said anything is possible in the NFL).

Well said about Eli Manning, he knows how to win. Probably the best way to put it without opening up that debate.

I've lived in Philly the past four years, just finished school at Temple. I don't think there has been a worse time for a NY sports fan to grow up in Philly than now, especially when trying to break into the fieldor sports journalism. My brother came to visit me from Stamford, CT (where we grew up) for only the second time when the Eagles came back on the Giants. We got cheese steaks and watched the game on South Street.

Just depressing, but honestly not surprising at the same time. Tom Coughlin inspirers no confidence me. He and the Giants are becoming known for these late season collapses. I stand my ground in believing that his hire of Steve Spagnuolo away from the Eagles won them that Super Bowl, more than Tom Coughlin's coaching. The only thing a Giants fan can hang their hat on is they took away a great defensive coordinator from the Eagles that ultimately won them a Super Bowl. Sean Mcdermott isn't getting the job done in Philly right now. Ultimately the Eagles lost in the playoffs, so it's a great Mike Vick Story and I'm sure Sal Paolantonio, Jaws or someone will write a book on it...maybe Tony Dungy.

All good points here. But the most disturbing recurring aspect of the Giants season (as opposed to the collapse against the Eagles), was being unprepared for their opponents. Coughlin and his staff were totally lost against the Colts, the second Cowboys game and for the Packers. These were not losses but embarrassments.

No serious contender should enter a stadium with a game plan as flawed as the ones used on those three occasions. That's three times in a 16-game schedule. Unacceptable.

there is SO much NOT to like about this Yankee season. VERY hard to watch. When I see what is about to (invariably) going to happen, I simply shut off the channel/TV. makes the agita go away faster. Chemistry is an absolute factor here (as well as poor managing, and a horrible G.M. that is responsible for this mess).

I think St. Johns got a guy they wouldn't have gotten if he was at another school. They both are taking chances. Almost a low risk, high reward type scenerio. Lavin knows if it doesn't work out here, he is done as a big time D1 coach. Hes a top name guy who wasn't coaching. SJ Needs someone to commit to them and he will. This should generate some buzz from the fans.

Nice piece, Howie. I couldn't agree with you more. There's no comparison to Team USA's 5-3 win over Canada this weekend to Lake Placid. I'm happy we beat Canada, but the game 30 years ago had an impact all over the world.

I watched Vazquez pitch twice this past year and he was dominant both time. One thing that's been lost in the historical analysis of his short stint as a Yankee is that he said that his arm hurt in the second half of the season but chose not to say anything. I never have a problem trading a kid for an established major leaguer especially when it involves the Yankees. Maybe that's why they keep winning. I haven't seen a one of the kids we've traded go to the hall of fame yet! The winner in this trade is NY hands down.

Though in the end money talks and you know what walks, the Mets are beginning to lose appeal as a big market team to players who seek recognition and a chance to make the world series. They've signed some big name players in recent years yet they have nothing to show for it. If they don't right this ship soon, they will find themselves over paying players to sign with them. I'm a Yankee fan first but I'm also a baseball fan and I always loved the spirit of the Mets. That spirit is missing. If they want Jason Bay, they'll have to do some serious selling and alot of payin'.
